Welcome to The Middle Way Hostel! Where Inner Peace Meets Outdoor Adventure
We here at the Middle Way Hostel are attempting to make the best Hostel in Ireland. To us, this means offering our guests a perfect holiday of relaxation and fun; hence why our tagline is, “Where inner peace meets outdoor adventure.”
Going camping in the wild is also fun, but again, after a few days, we miss can all miss home comforts.
A perfect holiday should be one of balance.
A holiday of physical activity and nature, leading into evenings of great food and relaxing drinks.
You must destress the body and mind, mind and body as one.
One of the best outdoor activities for de-stressing the mind is, of course, surfing, and once I became involved in the Middle Way project, I knew I had to learn to surf.
Thankfully, Westport is home to one of the best beaches in Ireland to learn how to surf, Carrowniskey beach.
For surfers of all standards, but especially beginners, this makes Carrowniskey beach the best beach in Ireland to learn how to surf.
Throughout the summer, I headed to Carrowniskey beach every weekend where I rented my surfboard, boots and wetsuit for €20 and hit the waves.
Getting instruction and tips from Charles and Elvis of Surf Mayo, I began to improve. Carrowniskey beach is located just a few kilometres past Louisburgh, and the drive over is as beautiful as the beach itself. With Croagh Patrick on your left and Clew Bay on your right, the scenic drive is beautiful.
Two kilometres past Louisburgh, you make a sharp right and turn down to Carrowniskey Beach.
The standard of gear, boots, boards and lessons is fantastic, and each instructor who works for Surf Mayo is amazing. Lessons are offered on the beach all the time and each instructor is extremely experienced.
So, if you’re visiting Westport and you’re looking for 1 epic outdoor adventure, climb Croagh Patrick.
But… if you’re looking for 2 epic outdoor adventures, then surfing at Carrowniskey Beach is definitely up there.
An amazing bunch of guys, an amazing beach, amazing surf.
If you want to know for sure what the waves are like, get in touch with the guys at Surf Mayo.
